La Cala has been named the Best 4* Golf Resort in Spain at the 2019 International Travel Awards, capping an award-winning year for Spain’s largest golf resort.
The latest accolade comes just a month after La Cala swept the board at the 2019 Europe Hotel Awards, winning categories for the best 4* hotel in both Spain and Europe.
Strikingly, the recognition comes a year after Irish owners FBD Holdings instigated a complete refurbishment of the 107-bedroom hotel. In addition, ambitious improvement work to the 54-hole golf resort this year has seen the installation of Bermuda grass greens and refurbishment of every bunker on the Asia Course.
Director of La Cala Resort, Sean Corte-Real, said: “The whole team at La Cala has worked incredibly hard to provide a world-class experience, on and off the golf course. This award is a credit to the hard-work of every single member of staff.
“Our ambition is to cement La Cala’s reputation as the premier golf holiday destination in Europe and our recent awards represent an important step towards achieving that.”
Situated in the foothills of the Sierra de Mijas with breath-taking views of the Andalusian countryside and distant Mediterranean, La Cala Resort is a golfing mecca only 30 minutes from Malaga Airport.
La Cala features three championship courses, a 107-room 4* hotel and Spain’s leading Hydrotherapy Heath Spa. With four award-winning restaurants and multiple bars, La Cala sets the standard for sport and leisure holidays in the Costa del Sol. There are also further leisure opportunities with a FIFA-standard football pitch, running circuit, gym, tennis and squash courts.
The three acclaimed golf courses – Campo America, Campo Asia and Campo Europa – each present unique challenges and slot seamlessly into a natural, undulating backdrop of trees and flowers, rich with birds and wildlife. Designed by world-renowned golf course architect Cabell Robinson, each 18-hole layout has been created to ensure a truly exhilarating experience. An additional 6-hole, par-3 course and world-class golf academy complete the La Cala experience.
In recent years, La Cala Resort has embarked on a major improvement programme to enhance its courses’ reputations yet further. Campo America was the first to benefit in 2018, with the 4th and 15th holes undergoing extensive remodelling to improve playability and all bunkers refurbished to enhance the aesthetics as part of a comprehensive upgrade.
Nestled between the arresting beauty of the Sierra de Mijas Natural Park and the shimmering Mediterranean Sea, La Cala is a genuine haven of tranquillity. It’s the perfect base for exploring Andalusia and Spain’s cultural cities like Granada, Seville and Malaga.
