AL ZORAH GOLF CLUB APPOINTS ITS FIRST HEAD PROFESSIONALFollowing its very successful grand opening last week, Al Zorah Golf Club – the UAE’s newest championship golf course – has announced the appointment of the highly-regarded Martin Dewhurst as its very first Head PGA Professional.
Originally from Bristol, England, Dewhurst brings a host of experience to the new Nicklaus Design course based in Ajman near Dubai, including four years as Head Professional at one of Europe’s and Troon Golf’s leading golf resorts, Costa Navarino in Greece. His latest venture at Al Zorah Golf Club marks the third Troon Golf-managed venue he’s worked with in his career, which included a spell in the Maldives where he played an important part in the opening of the Troon Short Game Academy, ‘Private Golf Moments by Olazabal’, at Velaa Private Island.
A fluent German speaker, Dewhurst also built a reputation as a world class golf teacher and player during a six-year stint in Vienna, where he worked with golfers of all levels at Fontana Golf Club – widely known as the best course in Austria.
“I’m absolutely delighted to join the team at Al Zorah Golf Club to become part of one of the most exciting stories in golf right now,” said Dewhurst, who is a member of the Austrian, British and UAE PGA’s. “The golf course is simply stunning and the practice facilities are top class – and when you add in the Troon Golf factor, you have a fantastic environment to work in.”

Dewhurst will implement his teaching philosophy on the meticulously-kept practice area at Al Zorah Golf Club, as well as on the breathtaking course, which is set amongst a naturally-preserved environment of native sandy areas, lakes and some one million square metres of mangroves.
“Martin has incredible experience of working at several world-class global golf destinations and that can only help Al Zorah Golf Club as it opens its doors to golfers from across the world,” said Philip Henderson, General Manager for Al Zorah Golf Club. “He’s also accustomed to the high customer service standards that Troon Golf sets and his expertise will further help maximise the experience for those playing and practising here.”
Last week, exactly two years since construction started on the spectacular piece of land in Ajman, the par-72 course at Al Zorah Golf Club was officially opened by His Highness Sheikh Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, Ruler of Ajman, as golfers and high-profile government officials watched on. Incorporating ten par-4’s, four par-5’s and four par-3’s, the course has already exposed golfers to the unique tidal system that changes the proposition of several holes depending on whether they’re played in the morning or afternoon. Two supremely-kept lakes also feature, including one that plays a prominent part in the standout par-3, 15th hole.
