DG IRELAND TOP150 – 2025
Editor, Kevin Markham
This is big, glamorous parkland golf. Lakes, streams, river, ancient trees, lazy rhythm, and lots and lots of space. The Palmer North course carries an enormous reputation for its design pedigree (Arnold Palmer) and for the events it has hosted (Ryder Cup, European and Irish Opens). It is no surprise that it promises all the frills and thrills you could ask for. The River Liffey squeezes some holes but many other water features abound on
this gently rolling Kildare landscape.
Despite such volumes of water this is a relaxing round of golf with generous fairways and big, swinging greens. You probably won’t even mind depositing a ball in the Liffey on the par five 7th… countless others have done the very same. And those fairways – all 18 of them – were completely re-laid and reseeded in 2022, providing a major splash of glamour. The Amgen Irish Open will arrive here, in 2025 (and 2027), when the world will
see once again the quality of this plush parkland.
Be sure to choose your tees wisely as the middle White tees measure 6,815 yards. The forward Green tees are far kinder at 6,240 yards.
FAVOURITE HOLE
The par four 16th is Index 1. It is a straight hole between the trees
with water threatening every shot (including your putts). Tiger lost
his 9 iron in the greenside pond.
WHAT’S IN THE BAG?
A big day with the driver and lots of water to
contend with.
