PALMERSTOWN HOUSE – DG IRELAND TOP150 – 2025
Editor, Kevin Markham
The site of a former stud, this is a muscular course built with championship ambitions. It has that grand, glamorous feel, it has space and length, it has a magnificent clubhouse (part of Palmerstown House which dates back to the 1860s) and no expense was spared in its creation. Here, water abounds with 13 holes introducing ponds, lakes and streams. From the back tees the course measures 7,419 yards, but from the regular tees it is a
more modest and manageable 6,468 yards – Christy O’Connor Jr was kind enough to provide four men’s tees.
Gentle mounding steers you past pampas grasses, flowerbeds and tall trees, over generous fairways, around the water features and towards big swinging greens. There’s plenty of room to find those putting surfaces… and leave long, daunting putts. A new island
green on the par three 10th has provided a dramatic new signature hole, while exceptional practice facilities were recently added, including a 20-bay Trackman driving range.
FAVOURITE HOLE
The par three 3rd may not be the ‘best’ hole but it is the prettiest.
Bridge, flowerbeds, lake and an imposing backdrop of trees
giving it so much colour.
WHAT’S IN THE BAG?
Be honest with yourself when deciding which tee to choose.
The doglegging par fives are all beasts and will quickly prove if
you’ve chosen wisely. A ball that floats will also help
