In Autumn 2024, The Machrie entered an exciting new phase as it became Another Place, The Machrie. The new name reflects a new approach: keeping everything you know and love The Machrie for, but expanding the guest experience by inviting boutique hotelier, ‘Another Place’ in.

Building on The Machrie’s breath-taking Islay location, world-class golf links, great food and drink, impressive interiors and modern art collection, Another Place has recently added a clutch of fresh experiences and spaces (see below), as well as family lodges and dog-friendly rooms.

On your next visit to Another Place, The Machrie, you’ll notice a few additions around the hotel and grounds. There’s a new outdoor relaxation and invigoration space nestled in the wild garden, with two wood-fired hot tubs, a sauna, cold plunge bath, terrace and firepit area.

After a day on the championship links, you can now wind down with a cold drink and try your hand on our new ‘social golf’ putting green, The Hebrides. With its curves and contours, twilight illumination and glow-in-the-dark balls, it brings a new dimension to our golf offer.

Have a relaxed bite to eat in the Courtyard, where you can order from a reimagined menu of Scottish hits – from Islay venison burgers to creamy Loch Gruinart oysters or lobster mac n’ cheese (upstairs, 18 Restaurant will continue serving the freshest seafood and Islay produce overlooking Laggan Bay). Afterwards, head outside to burn it off with a game of croquet, or pool in the new games room. Then, as the light fades, wander through the dunes to watch for the Northern Lights from the beach deck and firepit.

Golf has always been – and will continue to be – at the heart of The Machrie experience.

Included in the World Top 100 list, and also recently won Scottish Golf Hotel of the year 2023/24. With the championship links course, six-hole par-3 ‘Wee Course’, The Hebrides putting green, covered driving range and Golf Academy simulator all set within the grounds, there’s something for everyone, all year round.

Beyond the hotel grounds, exhilarating island adventures await.

Will you spot swimming stags, seal pups and dolphins on a wildlife boat trip? Ride a fat-bike along endless sands? Take a dip in the pristine waters of Kilnaughton? Watch the sunset on the wild west coast? Sink a “wee dram” or three at one of Islay’s 9 whisky distilleries?

Whether beaches, boats, bikes or bottles are more your thing, new experiences are waiting.

Another Place is an evolving hotel collection which focuses on making amazing places come alive, through a relaxed, active, social and community-focused ethos. While each Another Place hotel shares this defining philosophy, they also reflect their own distinct location – introducing guests to memorable experiences in wild and elemental settings.

Another Place, The Machrie is now the second hotel in the collection – joining Another Place, The Lake in Cumbria. The contemporary 47-bedroom hotel is set in 18 acres of Lake District National Park, with a private lakeshore and views over Ullswater and the fells. Named Sunday Times Family Hotel of the Year 2023, it’s the ideal place to explore the wilderness, swim beneath a full moon, eat and drink well, relax and have a good time.
